The Art of Being Naked

Be Naked. Be Free.

The Girl

She has dirty blond hair, a seductive smile, and the most engaging set of hazel green eyes I’ve ever seen.  It’s the kind of engaging I can’t ignore… the kind that makes me want to engage too.  Because she’s mysterious.  And I’m curious.  And I need to know more.

Yet, I do my best to avoid making eye contact.  So I stare down at the pool table and pretend to study my opponent’s next move.  But only long enough for her to look the other way, so I can once again catch a glimpse of magnificence.

I do this, not because she intimidates me, but because I think she may be the girl Chad met last night.  A wild night that, he said, “involved two bottles of port wine, chocolate cake, and sweaty bed sheets.”

Then, just as her eyes unexpectedly meet mine, my opponent groans, “It’s been your turn for like five minutes.  Ya planning on going sometime today?”  And she walks gracefully away.

So I continue to wonder… “Is she the port wine and chocolate cake girl?  Gosh, she doesn’t look like that kind of girl.”  But I don’t wonder too long because Chad enters the room and says, “Marc, there’s someone I want you to meet.”  So I follow him into the kitchen and we bump right into her.  “Oh, Angel,” Chad says.  “This is my buddy, Marc.”

And I smile ear to ear and chuckle…

Because she’s not the port wine and chocolate cake girl.  But also because I spent the last twenty minutes thinking about the port wine, and the chocolate cake, and the sweaty bed sheets.

The Dance

Hours later, the party begins winding down.  But the band is still playing, the two painters who have been painting a wall mural all evening are still painting, and Angel and I are still dancing.

“Are you tired?” I ask.

“No,” Angel says.  “Dancing is my outlet.  When I dance, I transcend myself and the doubts that sometimes prevent me from being me.  This evening has been enchanting, just dancing with you and being me.”

So I twirl her around.  And the drummer keeps drumming.  The guitarist keeps strumming.  The singer keeps singing.  The painters keep painting.  And now we’re the only ones dancing.

As we continue to dance, she says, “I feel as if we’re naked.  And not just you and me, but the drummer, the guitarist, the singer, and the painters too.  Everyone left in this room is naked… naked and free.”

I smile and tell her that I agree.  “We are naked.  We are free.”

As I know we don’t have to take our clothes off to be naked.  Because moments of passion flow into each other like port wine flows into chocolate cake.  And if we let them, these moments can expose us completely, and continuously.  And create climaxes that don’t even require sex.

Because a true climax has little to do with orgasm, and everything to do with passion, love, and devotion.  In the same way, nakedness has little to do with how much clothing one wears, and everything to do with one’s awareness in a given moment of time…  An unfettered awareness that frees their mind and allows them to truly live the moment for all it’s worth.

The Climax

After a few more songs, Angel asks if I’d like to join her out on the front porch where it’s quieter.  “Just so we can talk about life,” she says.

I give her a little wink.  “I love life in this crazy world!  It is crazy, isn’t it?”

She smiles.  “Yeah, a world in which we can be naked with our clothes on and experience continuous climax without intercourse.”

“Because instead we can achieve both with music, or paint, or dance, or any form of avid self-expression,” I add.

“You got it.  Even the sincerity in this conversation is beginning to work for me,” she says as we step out the front door and into the moonlight.

Marc – If you don’t write full-time for a living, then you are really missing your calling. You are quite the storyteller! Is this really how you met Angel?

Living life “naked” where we are free and uninhibited is living it to its fullest! Also, savoring the pleasurable moments in life is a true source of great happiness. Thanks for reminding me of these points!

Absolutely beautiful and so true. :) Loved the imagery! Very powerful!

“Because a true climax has little to do with orgasm, and everything to do with passion, love, and devotion.”

Favorite quote of the entire piece!

@Jeff: Yeah, this is how Angel and I met many moons ago. 😉 One of the best nights of my life… a night that altered every one since then.

@All: Thanks so much for the kind words. Remember, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. And never hesitate on your passions.

    Life is short.

    Be naked and be free.

Great story, reminds me of times when i really felt free and alive. The way you are able to break down your experience into a string of sensations and emotions that add up to that constant climax/naked feeling should remind us to look at the moments in our own lives to see the magic that hides in each one. Because there is something special in those ecstatic dancing/compelling beauty/creatively artful moments, and there is the potential for something special in the seemingly mundane moments in between.

nakedness, some people thought it’s a shame… but when we are not afraid of what people think or see.. when people’s opinion no longer matters, when we are flowing and one with the moment, we can do something great.
naked and not afraid of it…
    wonderful story!

I really enjoyed this story Marc. It is beautifully written, and really pulls you in. I was hooked, and I loved learning how you and Angel met. It’s so interesting to see your outlook on living life in the moment being explained through such great imagery.

    Love it!

This is really a beautiful piece Marc. I love the way you have expressed total immersion in the passion and sweetness of being fully there in that moment; all senses engaged.

    Marc and Angel,

My evening has been filled with many blessings, so it was the perfect end to be drawn to your “Art of Being Naked” blog. Your love certainly shines through with grace and eloquent expression of each other. It is truly a gift to honor each other while sharing your most intimate moments with the world. It reminded me of a piece I wrote as I watched various exchanges from a rocking chair in the Charlotte airport:

The Exchange: There is such beauty from watching from afar…the interlude, the glance, the greeting, the embrace, the shake. All exchanges of warmth, of love, of friendship, of possibilities, of times past, and all the while the soul fills with the awesome hope of expanding with each exchange.

I have certainly expanded with your exchange!

    Thank you!
    Best to you!

    You are welcome, Marc.

I have appreciated exploring your blog/site and finding many reminders of being whole with who I am and sharing myself with others. It has been a truly amazing transformation and it all started when I was seeking “life lessons” on Google and your 26…showed up!

It used to be one of my personal favorite sayings, “you may not learn from me everything there is to know about investments and finance, however you will certainly learn about life lessons,” I would attest to my intern, and now great friend, Greg. I have found that perfect strangers are those virtual friends and guides that once tapped and embraced, can lead to parts of yourself you always knew were scratching to get out, but had no vehicle.

I am silently thrilled. I say that because I have not always been heard in my everyday world and it is liberating for my voice to touch another soul. This has lead to so many other blessings, all who have showed up after I asked God/the Universe to “please bring to me the women (I got you with Angel as a bonus!) who will help bring my agenda forth in the world (which is to help people achieve their life purpose, whatever they define that to be). In the past 2 weeks, they are showing up one by one with grace, guidance and fortitude.

Thank you for being the beacon for many.

That was really really well written. I was completely absorbed in the story… transported to that pool table, the itch to devour her. Ravenous :)

Your description of feeling naked while dancing is really powerful. So eloquent and accurate.

    And the ending was ahhwww….

Again, really cool article. Descriptive and inspiring but at the same time it leaves you thinking. Not thinking in the self-helpy article sense, but really thinking about life and passion.

    All the best,

That was really a moving story. I am taking a creative writing class at my school, and reading your story gives me something to shoot for. Very good piece.
I’m happy you were able to find such a good romance for yourself, Marc. It really is a beautiful and rare thing to have such a connection with a person. I look forward to reading more of your blog.

Wow. This was absolutely beautiful and amazing. I’ve been reading a few of your other posts, but I think this one is my favorite because it’s so cute and it really connects with people. I write short stories, but mine aren’t no where near as amazing as yours. You’ve inspired me to work hard with my own short stories and make people connect just like they can with yours.
Again I loved this story. So cute and it’s really amazing.
