Thank you for sharing. Your words are inspirational. To hear of someone who has lost and has had a major life change but survive it and go on in spite of that is encouraging. I am proud of you! Keep it up Michelle.
Marc Chernoff says
Great perceptive, Michelle. Thank you.
And thank you to Gloria and Jesse. We really appreciate the positive feedback. 🙂

Thank you for this email/post. I am grateful for many little things, but right now I am grateful for the access I have to emails and blogs like yours.

Always a great reminder! For me I do 5 minute journal app each evening and it has made a huge difference.
Your article was wonderful reminder that when you stop being grateful, just remind yourself and start again.
Today I’m grateful for a moment of quiet in the afternoon sun on a winters day (Sydney)
Marc Chernoff says
Evening gratitude journaling works wonders!
Jesse says
Marc and Angel are a true blessing in my life as well. It’s funny how life happens. I was introduced to them from a friend of a friend who I haven’t seen in years now and may not see again. His gift to me was introducing me to Marc and Angel. I am very grateful for that. Thanks for sharing Brogan.

What a much-needed reminder for us all, Marc!
Gratitude is the key to building self love. The more we are grateful for what we have, the more we love ourselves. Only then can we love to others. As you had said once, how can we give something we don’t have, to others….
At night, I spend 10 minutes thanking the higher power for whatever I received and was denied. But during the day, when something happens (good or bad), I just whisper “Thank you” immediately. It has helped a lot!
Marc Chernoff says
I love that, Vishal. Sometimes “thank you” is all that needs to be said.

I love this post, and I can relate to what Michelle shared above.
Last year I had to start my life over after a painful divorce. I moved into tiny attic apartment so I could save money while I figured out how to begin again, with basically everything. Two friends donated a twin bed and an eating table for me to use. Slowly, I bought used appliances and utensils so I could cook groceries at home. Times were sparse, but I was grateful for what I had, even though I didn’t show it.
This situation is what led me to searching google which led me to your website. Since then I’ve devoured and implemented many of the strategies you discuss via your articles, emails, book, and so forth. It’s been a little over a year now, and my new reality is much more comfortable than when I started. I am grateful, and now I actually know it and show it! Yes, it’s been a lonely road at times, but I’m making it work, step by step! I’m growing through this.
Sometimes I overlook how much progress I’ve made and how much I’ve grown. But it’s something to smile about for sure.
Jesse says
Thank you for your post Jamie. I too went through a major life change within a relationship. I am grateful today that my eyes are open as I tend to choose unhealthy partners. Thanks again for your words of encouragement.
Stephen Roe says
An encouraging article as always, Marc. Remembering what we have to be grateful for is difficult to do consistently, but always pays off in the long-term.
For a few months, I kept a gratitude journal that I’d write in every morning. I required myself to write down five things I was grateful for before getting ready each morning.
I’ve stopped now for no particular reason (and probably would implement it in the evening now, for the sake of time), but learned a lot from that experience. When I told one of my friends what I was doing, he commented that it must be hard.
It was hard–five things can seem like a lot–but the reality was that writing down five things is a tiny percentage of what I could be grateful for. I often listed “small” things like the sunrise or music in my journal to fill up my required five items, only to realize when reviewing it the next morning that I was most grateful for those small things.
If I were to do it again, I would require myself not to repeat an item the next day. That would force me to see more things around me that I ignore. I might even require ten instead of a mere five.
Thanks again!

I’m thankful I have legs and can go for a run whenever I want.
Thank you for writing this post. We’re always looking at the next big thing to do, to achieve and forgetting what we already have, what we’re doing. I was falling into a negative thought cycle just this morning because I couldn’t finish an assignment my peers could quite easily. Now I’m grateful that I have something to improve upon and the drive to do it. THANK YOU.
Carmen says
I’m so thankful to you and Angel. You always give us all a wake up call because some of us really need it. I’m always grateful but sometimes I get caught on my short comings but I know it’s not for long it’s just temporary and then I remember that things can be worst so that you again for reminding me again?
Connie Hosker says
Oh so simple and yet so powerful. How we take the little beautiful things for granted without even a thought. Thank You for the wake-up call on this Amazing Sunday Morning!!! xo
Riga Adiwoso says
Thank you to remind me to see the best in the small things. I am grateful I can breath clean air, and have a lovely time with my grand children playing lego. I smile for feeling blessed to have friends. regardless of age in many places. I am happy to be able to see, walk, and think. I am happy to be me.

You’re definitely right. If you are grateful for your big life, you have no time for trivial things. If you dream big, you have no time for small things. I can send my thanks to you now because I’ve just had dinner, I have hands and fingers, of course, and eyes to read. I’m going to listen to a lecture by my venerable monk or nun. How happy I am, every day, without winning lottery, as I never buy lottery tickets, never wish to win it to have happiness.
Fran says
Thank you for a wonderful article. I am going to start the nightly routine of writing down 3 things tonight.

Wonderful eye opening reminder of how fortunate we are in spite of our circumstances. The mere fact we have access to emails to read up lifting writings . I am thankful for being able to have a job as often times we get so frustrated with work.
Thank you Angel and Marc for bringing our focus to how fortunate we really are.

Dear Marc and Angel,
It’s been a true pleasure ” meeting you!” I’m not sure what your family background is, and what religious orientation each of you has…but I find some very high correlations with a certain mind set.
The truths you focus on are universal., based on “traditional Judaism. ” Think good, and it will be good”, being thankful everyday for awaking, each thing we partake in ( ie eating, drinking, physical abilities, yes even being able to go to the bathroom ),etc, we express thankfulness with specific prayers.. Each night , we evaluate our day, (being grateful for the day), and resolve to improve the following day. Being grateful is an integral part of living ( minute by minute ) according to TORAH ( the Five Books of Moses and all the commentaries and writings of the Torah scholars ). As by your examples in your writing ( and practice) , you see the truth in it, for EVERYONE in the world!
Thank you again for your continued support and encouragement in a straight forward manner, to bring about the betterment of civilization!
Btw..I often recommend your articles to various friends and family.
Deborah G says
It is so hard sometimes to practice gratitude, but it can be calming in the face of difficulty. Two months ago I lost my father as he battled alzheimers and heart failure. I had not seen him in years, and he died two days before my flight left to see him. Rather than be selfish and bitter that I could not see him one last time, I was thankful he no longer suffered and instead died peacefully in his sleep. More recently, a kitten we had rescued died at only a few weeks of age from a genetic heart defect. It was so painful to lose him, but I was thankful that we had shared his short but joy-filled life and he had not suffered. Practicing gratitude can be so incredibly difficult at times, but it helps me find inner peace and the emotional energy to give to my loved ones.
Sandra says
Dear friends, thank you so much for teaching us a great lesson to remember: always appreciate and be grateful for the most simple things that we have instead complaining for what we don’t have…especially give thanks to God.
God bless you M&A and everyone 🙂
Have a great week!
Meg Barnes says
So many thanks to you, Marc and Angel. I am full of gratitude for the resources you have provided me with over the past 3 tough years, when nothing has gone to plan, and still isn’t really! However, you have played an enormous part in keeping me smiling and and not giving in to misery! And not demanding a penny for all this help. You are extraordinary people and deserve huge happiness for yourselves.

I am grateful for the generosity of plants–the cherry tomato plant in my yard, the hydraenga bushes that produce such lovely long lasting blossoms, the trees that shade my house and cool the summer temperatures up to 6 degrees, the Asian pear tree down the street whose owner lets the fruit fall and be harvested by those who walk by, the plums that a neighbor gave me last night.

Thanks for this great reminder…am so elated after reading it. I was humbled, though.

Absolutely great article, grateful I read it! As a widower and single father of 2 amazing kids I have to remember to be grateful everyday for what I have vs what I have lost. It is tough at times, but life is short and there are so many amazing things to be happy and grateful for!
Francisco says
Like your other posts, this filled me with a lot of happiness, Thank you for reminding me to be grateful even for the smallest of mercies.
Having contacted you has been the best thing that has happened to me for a very long time.

Thank you, Marc and Angel, for your positive influence. Through your words, which I read each morning, I always start my day happy and ready to be grateful for whatever comes my way. You have made a real difference in the way I live my life and I am thankful for both of you.
Lynda says
I am grateful that when I wake up the first thought I have is….”I wonderful what wonderful thing is going to happen to me today?”
Stan says
What a great way to start the day, Lynda I think the same way, and have discovered that when you look for, and expect something wonderful is going to happen, it does!
Simon says
I’m grateful for the never ending supply of beautiful new music that I discover everyday through social media. It’s often maligned but one of the best things about it is the discovery of new things that I otherwise would not have known about.
Jesse says
Life truly is a blessing. There is so much to be grateful for. My job, shelter, food, clothing, water, living in a great and safe country, my family and friends who love me, my health and having all my senses and my sobriety. The one thing I forget to be grateful for is life’s adversities. The “bad times” in my life are a real blessing. There isn’t much change or growth when I am happy, when everything in life is going well. When life gets out of control, chaotic and stressful, that’s when I grow and change. When I was addicted to drugs and alcohol I didn’t have much of a choice until I hit bottom. I am truly grateful to have a choice to change my life for the better!
Judy Gergen says
I am thankful for life….and more life! I’m thankful for JESUS and FAITH. I’m grateful for all my working senses…..and for healing memories. You and Angel were born for such a time as this! Thank you for sharing your passions with all of us! God bless you both!
YM says
Something that I am grateful for that I truly forget sometimes is the smell of a home cooked meal. Unlike me, some people have to wake up to have the same meals every day that don’t require cooking, or maybe just are frozen. I’m so lucky to be one of the students that brings a home cooked lunch to school instead of buying the school lunch, which they say is healthy, but one has no idea what is in it. I am also grateful for my parents and my sister. My sister is the best human in the world. She’s there for me ALL and I mean all of the time. Other people do not have siblings. It would make me feel so lonely if I didn’t have my sister. Life would be so different.

Thanks for your emails. Yes, gratitude does lift ones spirits and gets you to recognize Gods Blessings. I just read an email about a dogs life. They find a sunny spot and soak it up. When there outside they play till there exhausted. They live the moment not looking back or forward. Being grateful each day helps us to Live and appreciate the day and being sensitive to how we respond in the moment. I plan on being more active in counting my blessings daily. Thanks, I love ? your emails.
Debbie says
Thank you and I just want you to know that God directed you so that I could see this this morning! I thank you so much and thank you for posting it! I am deaf in my left ear but I am grateful today that I hear in my right ear because this morning my little five-year-old grandson called me and quoted John 3:16 and that is something to be so very grateful for, that I was alive and could hear that!
Diane says
Just what I needed on this beautiful Sunday morning. Why I get into the ‘poor me’ state of mind is a constant challenge question. Being grateful is the key and I do know this. The suggestion of journaling will help me be more accountable to practice gratitude daily. Thank you- as always
Cathleen says
Thank you! I’m so grateful I discovered you both and have read your many posts, not forgetting your 1000 little things book. I’ve discovered that my life really can be filled with contentment, if I stop struggling with the over-interpretation of the behaviour of other people and instead actively choose to change how I actually think and do whilst being grateful for all that I am & have. I’m still a work in progress but it really is that simple.
Emilia says
I want to thank you for all your helpful words. So many times when I start to doubt things I seem to get just the right encouragement from you both. I truly thank you so much.
Bette says
Marc and Angel, so many of your blogs are inspiring and needed in our fearful world, and all the comments are beautiful. Too. I live in gratitude and happiness although I do not have great financial resources. I taught my children to be grateful, and I will forward this blog to them as proof that it is a value for the generations. I also encourage other parents through my writing to help their children be grateful. Thank you all for sharing.
Becky says
Thank you Marc and Angel! Your words have helped me many times to shift my perspective. They guide me back to positive when I need it most. You are very much appreciated!!
Stan says
I am grateful for so many little things that people sometimes claim I am childlike. They may mean that as an insult, I choose to accept it as a compliment as children have a natural joy of the wonders of the world that we often loose when we “grow up”.
Even though I do have serious responsibilities as an adult, I hope I never lose the joy I feel inside when I see a flying bird, a newly opened flower, or a running stream.
Marc says
Thank you Marc and Angel
I ordered a mocha at the local cafe and it was delicious, I went back to the cafe and told the young girl the mocha was perfect and shewas very happy and said, “You have made my day, thank you.”
But this simple gesture also made me feel good for the rest of the day too.

After reading this, I am going to go out & buy 3 journals. One for me and the other two for my teens. We all get caught up in daily life & problems (single mom & two teens here lol) that we forget to stop and reflect on what is really important. We have a thankful jar we put our blessings in every once in awhile but think this would be more personal and specific to our journeys 🙂
Cindy Moreland Zamora says
Marc & Angel—I am grateful that somehow I ran across your posts years ago! I enjoy what you two have to say and the variety of content you share. It has enriched my life in so many positive ways. I have shared it with countless others in my work life/personal life and hopefully it has enriched theirs too!
Thank-you,
Cindy

Finally, I am grateful for finding the place to post my gratefulness… Tee hee…
Thank you Marc & Angel for coming into my life when you did, I am so grateful for finding your blog, can’t even remember how I did.
I am grateful for my life, the way I have changed and see now how my thoughts brought about all the struggle and how my new thinking has been bringing so many new, great, fantastic, fun, exciting times in my life. New home, brand new! Renting , but new, time for me to get to the issues of beliefs, all kinds of wonderful things, friends showing new and exciting events to think of attending, it really has been a blessing having your emails coming to my inbox.
Usually just what I need that day!
Keep up the good work, and I will try now that I have Internet to finish the ” Getting Back to Happy” that I signed up for…
