19 Signs You’re Doing Better than You Think

Even in uncertain times, it’s always important to keep things in perspective.
True wealth is the ability to fully experience life.
- Henry David Thoreau
- You are alive.
- You are able to see the sunrise and the sunset.
- You are able to hear birds sing and waves crash.
- You can walk outside and feel the breeze through your hair and the sun’s warmth on your skin.
- You have tasted the sweetness of chocolate cake.
- You didn’t go to sleep hungry last night.
- You awoke this morning with a roof over your head.
- You had a choice of what clothes to wear.
- You haven’t feared for your life today.
- You have overcome some considerable obstacles, and you have learned and survived.
- You often worry about what you’re going to do with your life – your career, your family, the next step, etc. – which means you have ambition, passion, drive, and the freedom to make your own decisions.
- You live in a country that protects your basic human rights and civil liberties.
- You are reasonably strong and healthy – if you got sick today, you could recover.
- You have a friend or relative who misses you and looks forward to your next visit.
- You have someone with whom to reminisce about ‘the good old days.’
- You have access to clean drinking water.
- You have access to medical care.
- You have access to the Internet.
- You can read.
The truth is, you’re doing better than a lot of people in this world. So remember to be grateful for all the things you do have. (Read The Happiness Project.)

Short, to the point, and spot on! Thank you so much for sharing this message because we forget in our own personal struggles to achieve bigger goals, that we already have so much to be grateful for… and that we are indeed doing pretty good already.

I am embarrassed to say all 19 points apply to me and yet sometimes I feel something is missing. We think such blessings as trivial when they are the gold at the foundations of our lives. For all the dreams we chase it’s the ones right under our nose we are never awake enough to honour. Consider me reminded. Thank You.

Such a well stated article. No need to mince words when you cut it so dry.
Think twice before you complain… despite having these basic listed luxuries, people still crave for more and more…
I’m 21, and I find it really pathetic when my peers complain about not being able to afford that ‘car’ or having x amount of money or how “life stinks”….
Life is good. Appreciate it. Enjoy this miracle.

So very true!..This is a great thing to remember when things look grim, it kind of makes one realize how much we take for granted, we all have much more than we think… Thank you for this share!

If you are not happy now and here then you never will be. We always have a lot of reasons to be grateful and happy. Thanks for the simple reminder. One should not take all the good things for granted. Acknowledgement is essential for happiness.

See I have a problem with 6-9. Knowing that there are innocent people out there that have those problems, makes me a bit uneasy and anxious…

There are people unable to walk outside or to be capable of getting better. But that’s not really the point. The point is to always look at the positives, not the negatives. I can’t count every one on your list as mine, but I can count more than 10, and many others that aren’t listed, so I know I am blessed.

#1 You Are Alive sums it up perfectly. If you can tick that box, you’re doing pretty good.

I gather with à group weekly to pray for the lonely, destitute, and less fortunate. It’s tough to see the world they see. Thanks for this reminder that we should be grateful for the many blessings - count them one by one… Peace to all.

My beloved husband passed November the 18th, his service was on the 20th.
Today we put his urn in the mausoleum.
This is exactly what I needed this morning. There’s a lot to be thankful for. I just need to remember that.

So true. Need to remember this when I focus on my problems instead of my blessings.

Your blog speaks to me, saying the things I need to hear exactly when I need to hear them. I find so much encouragement in that, and I thank you.

That was great Marc. Even on the worst day most of us get at least 15 of those. Which is pretty amazing. We are the most fortunate people ever to live on this planet. Thanks for helping us remember that.

You were spot on with everything. Number 10 resonated with me so much. Last year this time my world fell apart and I never thought I would recover. This year I’m blessed with a great job, wonderful coworkers, a son who is excelling in university, moving in five weeks and have my health. I’m beyond grateful

Excellent post. Being thankful is far underrated and if we take a look we will see many more that have it worse than us. Be thankful and lend a helping hand to others in need.

Thanks for the encouragement. When I was younger I went on a lot of Christian mission trips and it forever changed my perception about what “success” is and if I should really complain about what Westerners consider to be tough circumstances.

Great post. Reminded me of this quote: “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” - Confucius

You’ve reminded me of something really important. This is it. Life. Live it to the fullest, never regret a moment, and be thankful for all that comes, good or bad. Life, well, this is it. Go out and live it.
Thank you.
