Quick Note from Marc and Angel
Here at Marc and Angel Hack Life our goal is to help YOU think better, feel better, and live better. We do our best to fulfill this goal by writing three fresh (and hopefully insightful) personal development articles every week to give you the tools you need to thrive. We promise you will not find a regurgitation of someone else’s point of view on our site. Regardless of the topic at hand, these views are our own. And, if you watched the Today Show interview above, you know that our advice is based on hard won experience.
Whenever our readers and students come to us feeling down about a life situation they can’t control, we typically start by reinforcing reality: sometimes changing your situation isn’t possible—or simply not possible soon enough. But, you CAN always choose a mindset that moves you forward. And doing so will help you change things from the inside out, and ultimately allow you to grow beyond the struggles you can’t control at any given moment.
We learned this lesson the hard way a decade ago as we struggled to cope through the most painful season of our lives—a season that included losing two loved ones to suicide and illness, family-related betrayal, job loss, financial instability, and more. And it all happened quickly, too, back-to-back. The pain of this season knocked us down hard for a couple years straight. At times, we felt like we had zero strength left to push onward. And that’s actually why we started writing on our blog in the first place. When we were at the lowest point in our lives, we used www.marcandangel.com as a public outlet and accountability journal. We wrote about our pain, our losses, the lessons we were learning, and the actions we knew we needed to hold ourselves accountable to, if we wanted to get through it all.
As we navigated our new reality one day at a time, one blog post at a time—facing the pain and investigating it, instead of distracting ourselves from it—we stumbled across morsels of strength and wisdom that we began to collect and build on. We gradually learned how to catch ourselves in negative states of emotional turmoil, so we could overcome the emotions that had once overcome us. We literally pushed ourselves as hard as we could to take one tiny action step after another—one honest conversation, one 10-minute workout, one meditation, and then we’d write about it. It wasn’t easy, but the tiny actions were manageable, and the daily ritual of writing about them helped keep us on track.
Although it seemed like nothing was changing day to day, EVERYTHING was changing, gradually.
And the same can be true for YOU.

Thank You so much I am writing this through the tears… Even though you do not know me, your smiles and acceptance has lifted me. I am facing things that are so hard for me right now and need to be a part of something that is bigger then my current circumstance. Something that is lovely… what a realization to be told that I don’t have to be perfect and I don’t have to do anything more to be me. I can attempt and fail and try again without shame and so can everyone else.
You have opened my mind with your words and I am now smiling.
All my love and gratitude,
What beautiful words, Peter. I hope you’re feeling a lot better now. I’m also very glad to have fallen onto this site 🙂 best wishes, Lottie

Thank you for writing this blog. You have helped me go through the most difficult stage of my life; a divorce. There were days when I could not read your blog and then other days where the blog hit the nail on the head of me and lifted my spirits. I still have bad days but I am getting through them. Thank you for sharing your positive spirit with the world. It gives me hope that there are beautiful people out there and I will one day have them in my life.
World is full of good people. It’s just that there is a time that is known only to God when actually they cross our paths and till you find them, be the one you are desiring to meet having a firm faith in God and the hope He gives us everyday to live a better life not to forget to His tender mercies to His children to have sent people like Mark and Angel to spread the goodness through their inspirational writing and make this world a better place to live 🙂

Dear Marc and Angel,
I wish to say a big thank you for the wonderful work you are doing on your blog, for the past 2 years I have been following all the wonderful reflections on your blog and they have really helped me to see life differently. I came across your blog at a point I was almost giving up on my dreams of becoming a priest, but after reading some of your wonderful articles on not giving up, I was fired up and the hope in me rekindled and today I am almost achieving my dreams. I have also shared your reflections with friends and family who are going through one situation or the other, and today I can tell you categorically that it has really helped them. I am trying to work on something myself to help the many young people in Africa who have misplaced their priorities, in chasing their dreams, having issues of relationships and most especially having low self esteem which makes them to settle for something less than they deserve. I read your post every morning and make them part of my meditation at prayers, at least something to reflect on through the day. Once more I say a very big thank you, and greetings from my friends here in Kenya and my family back in Nigeria. Right now I am alive and living life as I ought to.

Thank you for your blog! 🙂
Hi Marc and Angel,
I just discovered your blog and I’ve already found a lot of TOP articles that inspired me. Your advices are well thought of, genuine and from the heart. I love reading them. I would like to make a suggestion though, it’s something you could do for people like me who just found your blog. I would like to see a list of articles that YOU think are your best ones. Those might be different from the popular ones I can see listed already. There are so many articles here that I kind of feel lost or like I’m missing out on things. 🙂 I would love to read the articles that you think are your best as some kind of starting point. What do you think? Anyway, thank you so much for the wise life lessons!

One of the best blogs I’ve come across recently. Keep up the good work 🙂
Your articles and advice give me positive energy every day. How I ever survived without your help, it seems unimaginable now.
Your words of wisdom are always close to me in printed form and a special file that fits in my backpack. I can spot negativity and bad karma now like never before. A confident choice to avoid or face difficult situations is now an option, thanks to what you have taught me.
Thank you for being my foundation heading into 2016.

Hi Marc and Angel. There are so many blogs out there on Personal Development. Many of them are very good, but I am very grateful I have come across yours. It’s the personal experience which you offer that makes a difference.
Look forward to seeing what you come out with in 2016.
I love your blog – so many posts inspire me.
I am working towards making big changes in my life. Often I feel discouraged and overwhelmed. After reading a few articles on your blog, I know I am adding the positive, upbeat thinking you share into my life.
Thank you for reminding me that my life can be whatever I want it to be, not what others think it should be. It’s taken over 50 years for me to figure out that truth.
Hello thank you so much for all the advice and guidance. Your blog posts are inspirational and truly helpful!

I have been fighting depression for the past 4+ years following my cancer surgery. Although my cancer is in remission, my life is forever changed. The new ‘normal’ is a paradigm-shifter, and one that now places me as a disabled person.
I came across your website/blog today, and have downloaded the article on 12-steps to perform daily for the year. When I initially read through them, I started quietly crying because of how much I’ve held myself back these past 4+ years. Thank you so much for writing these philosophies! It has cheered me up immensely.
Really love your articles. They are just so inspiring!!! How do you both manage to stay so positve!

Just found your website today and it’s a treasure trove of helpful advice. I’m reading one article after another.
I feel like I learned a lot, even though I only read a few articles. Particularly liked the one about enjoying ordinary life. Now I’ll infuse my life with even more mindfulness.
Subscribed to your newsletter too and I’m loving it!

Why don’t you ever come to Michigan? I would come to your conference live if you came to Michigan! Either way, I appreciate the email exchange we recently had, and the recorded version of your conference is a wonderful reference for me.

Hi, Marc and Angel. I’ve really benefitted from your works for the past three years. I’m a subscriber suffering from Nigeria who suffered
depression due to family crisis from childhood. I’m in charge now. God has used you and a combination of others immensely to bring stability to my life. I am now proactive when it comes to managing me. I’m grateful.
I just wanna say you have a really great blog (and books) that change people’s lives – certainly mine – without you even directly knowing it. So keep on fighting the good fight! And thank you. xoxo
