Today is a choice. Today, choose grace over impatience, laughter over worry, and beauty over negativity.
The most underrated character trait of all successful people I’ve ever met: Positivity.
Your attitude directly determines how well you live your life.
Truth be told, it never pays to get discouraged. Staying mindful and making positivity a way of life will help you restore your faith in yourself, no matter what you’re up against.
And in most cases it takes just one positive thought to overpower an entire array of negative thoughts. So here are 25 quotes gathered from our blog archive that can be used as positive reminders to help tweak your thinking and quiet the negative voice in your head:

It’s been awhile since I’ve commented, but I loved the quick, effective dose of inspiration this post offered. So here are two quotes directly from your book that help me keep a positive mindset when I’m working (I have both hanging in my office):
“REMINDER: It costs nothing to be positive. And it changes things for the better.”
“Before you waste it on anger, resentment, spite or envy, think of how precious and irreplaceable your time is. Positivity always pays off.”
Thank you, as always, Marc (and Angel too).
Marc Chernoff says
Welcome back, Dev. It’s so great to hear that we’ve been able to make a lasting positive impact. Keep paying yourself in positivity.
And thank you, again, for supporting our work.

Love these quotes/sayings!
Here’s another one I love that you shared a couple months ago in your email newsletter. I immediately wrote it on a post-it note and taped it to my computer monitor:
“When little things go wrong, don’t go with them.”
Marc Chernoff says
Glad that quote resonated, Michele. It’s a simple lesson I honestly remind myself of almost every day.
Lana says
Always an inspiration, Marc and Angel.
Here’s an uplifting quote that has always helped me:
“It never rains roses. When we want to have more roses, we must plant more roses.”
Marc Chernoff says
I love that! Thank you for sharing, Lana.
Harleen says
Awesome affirmations!
My favorite quote is:
“If you knew how powerful your thoughts are you would never think a negative one again!”

I think your blog is the best one I’ve read about psychology and positivism. I’ve been reading every post/email you send for the past year year and a half… I have a heath problem so you are helping me to get up and go onward.
Congrats and thanks!
Marylou says
Hi thanks for sharing these quotes. I want to be surrounded by them all day! Do you sell each in print format? If not that may be a good idea.
Marcie says
THANK YOU! I love these! I have never felt so compelled to leave a comment on anything I’ve read online before. I just did a “One Word Challenge” with the staff at my school. My word for the 2015-2016 school year is POSITIVITY. Reading your post reinforced my word choice and helped confirm that being positive isn’t the same as being naive.
Becky says
Marcie,
Please tell me more about your one word challenge you did with your staff. I may want to do it with mine.

Good luck! We took all the words and made them into a display…. 2015-16 “In A Word”.

These are wonderful, Thank You! Can I purchase them for screen savers? I think they would be great in a set of cards I could flip through to remind myself. 🙂

WOW! Thanks so much.

3 months ago today my world was shattered when returning home from holiday I found my beautiful son dead. At times I have wondered if I want to carry on living without him. I then stumbled upon your website and I’ve started to look at things differently. I’ve started to appreciate all the things I have the most important being my health and a wonderful husband. I am also thankful that I had 30 years of memories of my wonderful boy. One of the thoughts I had in those early weeks was that I no longer fear death, then I heard a quote which changed my thinking “If you don’t fear death then you’re not really living”. After hearing that I’ve decided to enjoy my life even more, and live it for Dan too! Thank you so much for your inspirational writing you are both really special people!!!
Carolyn says
Sandra, I am so very sorry about the death of your beautiful boy. There are no words except to say that I am proud of you that you can focus on enjoying your life both for yourself and your husband and in honor of your son. I honor your strength. ?

Marc and Angel, I’ve been reading some of your posts for years. I read all of these. All of them great! Thank you for being so upbeat, dependable. Here’s one of my own… “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should”
Joel says
Thanks for these, Marc. I particularly like the one which urges us to talk more about our joys, loves and dreams.
One of my favourite quotes is:
“How much pain have cost us the evils which have never happened.” – (Thomas Jefferson)
How much more courageously we would live if we crossed each bridge only when we came to it.

I’m glad to hear you say that “in most cases it takes just one positive thought to overpower an entire array of negative thoughts.” So many advisers say the exact opposite (it takes an entire array of positive thoughts to overpower just one negative thought), which is a negative thought in itself.
Katherine Swarts says
I identify well with the quotes on overthinking–would like to see a whole post on breaking the overthinking habit.
Angela says
So would I , Katherine!! If u hear any more about that please share!
Thank you!!

My 37 yr old son was killed in a car wreck 6 months ago. He left behind a 5 yr old daughter. We are struggling horribly to survive and press forward. Thank you for your quieting words. Your posts have always soothed my heart but never as much as the last few months. My mothers heart has been shattered. You are gradaully helping fill a few of the holes in my soul.

I have emerged from a 2 year depression. During that time, your words were often the only light I could see. They helped me to stay with it long enough to get successful therapy and to build a new life, with a new outlook. God bless you in your work.

I read and profit from your powerful words. Here is a paragraph from a book I wrote to help me recover from life’s challenges….
“You can sit on the couch and eat ice cream out of the carton or take the tranquilizers the doctor prescribed, or you can put one foot in front of the other and get moving toward your new life. The choice is yours , and talking yourself into doing this gets easier as you run out of ice cream.

Did you guys come up with all of these? That’s incredible!
I guess you just soak up wisdom when you do this for such a long time, wow!
I especially love the one about a 100% track record for making it through bad days, as an entrepreneur that is key for me 🙂
Also really like the one about thinking like there is no box.
Thank you so much!

I’m not entirely sure where to start here, but lately I’ve been having a rough time in certain areas my life. Anyway, I received this email from Positively Present that had a link to your blog. The link put me to your article “Little-Known Laws of Mindfulness”. Instantly, I was drawn to it. So, of course, I read it. Your words resonated with me so strongly, I continued to read your blog for about two hours. I think I printed up at least four different articles that I carry with me EVERYWHERE. Even if there was only one line that hit home for me, I pinned it or printed it. Your blog is truly an amazing one, and it’s given me back the one thing I seem to have so easily lost…hope. I really would like to thank you for the work you guys do. I am a writer myself, and words are my lifeline. To read something that can affect me so strongly is truly incredible. Anytime I feel my mood start to shift even the slightest bit, I pull up your blog, and I just read. I don’t care if it happens to be one that I’ve already read. I just read. That’s powerful, and for that, I thank you.
Love & Light my friends 🙂

Stumbled upon your posts thru Stumbleupon and what a blessing. My wife is a recent double-lung transplant recipient. Lots of moments of “too much thinking” I enjoy sharing your posts with her. Looking at this reminds me of the one I used to always tell my sales agents. “If what you are doing doesn’t work, then doing more of what doesn’t work, doesn’t work. Do what works!”

A fantastic collection – specially love the ‘thinking about our problems is our greatest addiction’. We definitely don’t notice how much negative thinking takes up time we could be using to better ourselves and focusing on the positive instead.
Dave Einert says
I come from a point of view that balance is where one is not negative or positive. My dad said that there is always someone poorer or richer than you. Its true so it covers both the negative and positive. Choosing that we are more fortunate or less fortunate are both accurate. From my observation those who seem under the surface very negative most often spout the positive affirmations and those who are inwardly positive spout the negative ones. If you were to take two people one most extreme negative and the other the most positive each of them could only see the other. I see both positive and negative. I have not achieved balance yet but continue to work on it. Someone close to me linked one of your sayings that led me here. Thank you for the opportunity to understand her a bit more…
