30 Beautiful Things Happening Now

30 Beautiful Things Happening Now

“Happiness, not in another place but this place…
not for another hour, but this hour.”
―Walt Whitman

All around the world, the present moment is filled with beauty.

If you are attentive, you will see it.  If you are willing, you will help create it.

Let’s take a moment to think about the beautiful things happening around us.

Right now, at this exact moment…

  1. A newborn infant just took her first breath.
  2. Two teenage romantics just received their very first kiss, from each other.
  3. Someone is driving their car with the windows down and singing to their favorite song at the top of their lungs.
  4. Volunteers in different cities are actively assisting and standing up for the powerless, the homeless, and the neglected who need someone to speak up for them.
  5. Someone is in the middle of complimenting a stranger who desperately needed a reason to smile.
  6. Two coworkers are cracking each other up and laughing so hard they aren’t even making any noise.
  7. A high school guidance counselor is contributing her time, encouragement, and a listening ear to help a student realize his passion and ability.
  8. People near and far are holding hands with the person they love.
  9. A husband and wife who were drowning in debt ten years ago proudly hold a balance of zero on all their lines of credit.
  10. Someone is going above and beyond and doing a little extra work to make someone else’s life a little easier.
  11. People from all over the world are online at crowdfunding sites like GoFundMe pledging online donations to help strangers in need.
  12. Responsible designated drivers are getting their friends home safely.
  13. A student tutor is volunteering her time to help a fellow student learn.
  14. Someone who has struggled with their weight for years is looking down at the scale, smiling.
  15. A long-term alcoholic just celebrated exactly one full year of sobriety.
  16. Somewhere someone is admiring a breathtaking sunrise, and somewhere else a surreal sunset.
  17. A friend is helping a friend rise above feelings of depression and suicide.
  18. Someone is holding the door open for the person behind them.
  19. A Good Samaritan is pulled over on the side of the road assisting a stranger who’s having car trouble.
  20. Someone is celebrating the fact that they just broke their own personal best record.
  21. An active duty military member stationed overseas just received an email from a loved one.
  22. Hundreds of people are spending a few clicks of their time online at Free Rice.
  23. Someone just accidentally overheard someone else say something nice about them.
  24. An emergency room surgeon just saved her patient’s life.
  25. Two best friends are hugging each other after being apart for a while.
  26. Honest people are working tirelessly at various government agencies to help protect the basic human rights and civil liberties of their fellow citizens.
  27. Someone who suffered from a severe injury a while back is back on their feet.
  28. Several of the world’s next great inventors, artists and entrepreneurs are working diligently on perfecting their breakthrough ideas and crafts.
  29. Someone is sitting quietly and smiling about the fact that there’s nowhere else in the world they would rather be right now.
  30. Somewhere on the Internet someone is writing an encouraging comment on a blog post that will make others smile.  :)

There truly is beauty to be seen in every imaginable direction if you are willing to see it and help create it.  (Read 1,000 Little Things.)

  • I have recently been going through a difficult time, and reading this really changes my thoughts on a few things. Lately I’ve been thinking, “poor me” to too often, but after reading this I realize I have plenty enough to help others who have far less.

My change in perspective makes this moment beautiful to me. Thank you.

  • A short, refreshing read. Thanks. And to answer your question:

  • What makes this moment beautiful is that I am sitting in my new apartment in Austin. At the ripe young age of 44, I moved across the country by myself to live a lifelong dream of living out west. I left my childhood friends & family in the mid west. Not an easy thing for a gal who has been “set in her ways” for so many years. I feel so excited about the future and plan on challenging myself in so many ways. I have truly faced my fears and can feel my spirit soar!

  • What a beautiful, inspiring list. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  • Just now a NYC bus driver stopped to wait for someone running for the bus.

  • I just helped a cat who came to my door in bad shape. It looks like he was in terrible battle and lost. He’s in a spare bedroom resting (due to the fact that I have other cats). He is so sweet, even using a litter box, its been 3 days and looks so much better than when he arrived… I feel so much happiness when i know that I helped this injured animal…

  • What makes this a beautiful moment is to finally hear the birds chirp in the morning. To see my two cats sit on their window seats and look out the window. Their tails flick back and forth.

I do believe Father Winter has finally packed his bags and left for the season. It’s about time. No offense. :)

What a great reminder to stop and think about all the amazing things constantly happening everywhere. Thanks!

  • Love this!

My addition: listening to my husband sing off-key in the shower. It makes me smile every morning!

  • After a very difficult two years, too often full of poor me and jadedness, this really helped me.

Right now I’m smiling with my yellow lab curled up by me on the bed. She keeps me going. I volunteered herr as a therapy dog at a hospice.

Seeing the positive is a big challenge and I am healing a bit everyday. Thank you all!

  • I’m relaxing and listening to a nice and sweet melody. Great. Up and down. Slow at first, quicker later.

  • This is very nice to read. It makes me smile. I would like to say thanks to Angel for putting this together.

My moment is when I saw one Black Colored Butterfly slowly flying nearby in the air near road. A Volkswagen comes fast and suddenly and appears to hit this butterfly. I thought that butterfly is no more, but it turns out that the car’s air/wind force pushed the butterfly away and when I looked again after the car passed this butterfly was flying as usual. Little amazing moment, but cute…

  • Sitting in the quiet, remembering the giggles of the morning.

  • This moment is beautiful because I have a wonderful man in my life that loves me, his sons and daughter in law are great, I have 2 amazing sons of my own, my dad has outlived doctors predictions several times, my mom has outlived almost everyone else in her family, we have 2 crazy dogs, a silly cat and I have never been happier.

    Thank you Marc and Angel!

  • Coffee!
Even though the first K-cup exploded and leaked all over the machine… After cleaning it and the mess it created… Sitting here now peacefully enjoying a cup of coffee and reading your inspirational blog to start my 12 hour shift is my moment.

  • This has made so many people stop and think; and so easily find something to celebrate. I will keep my bitter-sweet moment private, it is better that way but it has made me appreciate something I may have let slip by.

    Thank you.

  • Thank you for always making a beautiful difference in my day.

  • I saw a beautiful moment today. Two 6-year-olds read to a class of 5th and 6th graders. Watching these new readers blossom into confident young people is amazing. One of those readers was my son. My heart smiled.

  • My son walked into the kitchen and at the exact same moment we both realized he has grown taller than me!

  • A little puppy just found her meal location (:-)

  • Great post! I appreciate some of these 30 things whenever I see them happen. Just yesterday I talked with someone who is struggling and I told him to get away from a bad relationship with someone he knows. I hope this person can rebuild his life.

  • Numbers 27 and 14 have hit me personally. I thank God every day for the ability to walk again without crutches and be able to step on the scales and smile as the numbers continue to drop! Thank you for such a wonderful and uplifting list. I want to be able to do more of them.

  • What makes this moment beautiful is realizing that I have finally fallen in love with myself. :)

I just returned home after spending some time with two of my very close friends… friends for over 30 years. We talked, we joked, and now I am at home still smiling about it. I also returned home from a trip abroad and it too makes my this time special as i realize that there is no place like home… how wonderful it is to be home with my family. Thank you once again

  • I was having a really crappy day and this made me smile.

    Thank you!

  • Yesterday I was told I had months - not years, left.
Today I saw the most wonderful rainbow of my life.

  • A wonderful way to look at the world. Most people find my way of thinking (always positive and happy) like I’m delusional. But there is so much to be thankful for, no matter what your situation someone has it worse somewhere. Be thankful and gracious for what you already have and stop dwelling on all the negative. Accept that everything happens for a reason. We are not in full control of our lives there is a higher being no matter what your beliefs are. Illness, death, heartache all these things WILL happen it’s called LIFE! Be happy enough to start everyday with a smile… but don’t be delusional that’s all. Blessings.

  • And also, a married couple that has been trying to have a kid for years just realized they’re pregnant. :)

  • One bad thing after another has happened to me this past year. A week ago today I found out what I thought was the most horrible thing in the world. I’ve felt sick and wanted to die for a week. Then today I woke up, the sun was shining! Nothing out of the ordinary happened today, I just suddenly realised that I control my happiness. I was overwhelmed with positive thoughts for the summer - it IS going to be my best one yet. I have spent the evening listening to all my favourite music, singing along with a big smile on my face. NOTHING will bring me down unless I let it. And I refuse to!
My favourite on this list is that someone is driving in their car with the windows down singing along to their favourite song at the top of their voice!
Be the change you wish to see in the world
Peace and love to all xxx

  • I know its hard to smile always, but just a good read like this article of yours brought a smile to my face.

I just started reading your blog yesterday and am already a big fan!

    Keep up the good work.

I can add one more beautiful thing to the list :
Someone somewhere is dancing like no is watching.

  • To Katrina April 5 6.36 am. I hear your sadness. Life doesn’t always go right for us even if we do the right things. Start your day on a positive note. Find your favourite happy song mine is “I gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, play it loud and SMILE! I swear that even if you do not feel like smiling that even after forcing yourself to - you do feel better. Don’t watch the news. Stop sad thoughts in their tracks. Get dressed every day and get outside. Say “Hi.” and smile at people. Katrina always remember that you are not on your own. People would love to help you. All you have got to do is ask. Good luck.

  • Love love love this post! <3

  • Breathtaking list…

  • Thank you ALL for sharing your thoughts it brought smiles and its made me feel so much better to know that we can really change how we feel by focusing on what’s good . Today when I was going out my daughter’s eyes followed me lovingly . Priceless.

To all the people in the world, I might not know you, but I truly love you all!

Together we can all make this a better place for everyone :)

  • 31. Somewhere on the front line a soldier has refused to carry out his orders by not shooting a fellow human being and deliberately missing his shot.

  • Thank you for this moment of inspiration. It is similar to my own thoughts often… whenever I feel down or uninspired, I think about a cafe in Paris and the beauty of someone sitting quietly, sipping a cup of coffee. It makes me feel bigger than myself, to think of all the amazing things that are going on at this very moment.

  • In this moment two lovers got married and that active duty soldier just came home to his family. What a beautiful moment.

  • Right now, someone some where read this article and decided not to dwell on what saddens them in the past or what worries them in the future but to live the moment, right here, right now. :)

  • While reading this post, I felt tears running down my cheeks…

  • Beautiful things for me, born totally blind and never having had sight include, but are not limited to:
    1. The feel of my cat’s glossy, soft fur–fur so glossy you can feel its pin-shininess under your fingertips.
    2. The sound of my cat’s purr.
    3. The flapping of his wing-like ears feels light and furry on my hand, and makes a variety of sounds you wouldn’t think fur would make: thapps, flaps, even snaps, brought on by the angle of the ear flap as it comes down through the air to touch your hand, how hard the soft thing lands on your hand, and rules of aerodynamics and acoustics I do not know. His thin flaps are something neat to hear.
    4. Braille. Nothing like a fragrant, old Braille book.
    5. Being able to connect with others through computer.
    6. Movies, TV shows, books I like available for my iPhone or computer.
    6. Friends who are disabled like me, who understand what the realities of being disabled, even in this modern century, really are.
    7. The love of God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.
